April Meeting - Developing a Dust Explosion Protection Strategy -- CANCELED

Hello SFPE Minnesota Members & Friends,

This April we will be hosting a presentation by Terry Oelkers of IEP Technologies.  He will be providing an hour presentation on the Fundamentals for Developing an Dust Explosion Protection Strategy for Your Process. This meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 17th at the MN Fire Fighters Museum in Minneapolis.

 

Dinner will be served at 5:00pm with our regular business meeting beginning at around 5:30pm.  Terry's presentation will begin shortly after the business portion has been completed. You may register by visiting the Events tab on our websitePlease note, a site profile does not need to be made to register, although we recommend creating one for future events.

 

We are excited to hear from Terry and a certificate for 1 PDH will be provided. We hope to see you all there.

Terry Oelkers
Terry Oelkers is an experienced sales leader in industrial sales and fire protection solutions. Currently serving as the Regional Sales Manager at IEP Technologies, Terry works throughout the Midwest, including Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. With over a decade of experience, Terry has honed his expertise in technical sales management, previously excelling as the Technical Sales Manager at Nelson-Jameson, Inc., and the Regional Sales Manager for Industrial Vacuum Solutions at Nilfisk. With a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Winona State University and certifications in NFPA standards, Terry is committed to driving innovation and excellence in fire protection, ensuring safety in both industrial and community settings.

This presentation will delve into the fundamentals of developing a dust explosion protection strategy for industrial processes. We will explore the characteristics of explosions, emphasizing the role of combustible dust, oxygen, and ignition sources. The presentation will go into typical explosion events, shock waves, and secondary deflagrations, providing insights into their mechanisms and impacts. We will then discusses industries at risk, equipment vulnerable to explosions, and applicable codes for explosion prevention and mitigation. Finally, we will review current explosion protection measures such as containment, inerting, venting, suppression, and isolation, providing valuable insights into safeguarding against dust explosions.
